CD Reviews

Bride's back? They never left!
mcflytrap | Marshall, MI United States | 04/02/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Some would call this Bride's "return" because this album sounds like what would best be described as "Snakes II" in some ways. The songs themselves definitely sound modern and much more raw than "Snakes", but the hard rock groove Bride became best known for is there. Anyone who was disappointed with the band's past efforts (I wasn't, but I know some were) should love this album. I will come out and say that if this album wasn't released with the Bride name, it would be big. Sadly, there seems to be a stigma attached to the band and young uninformed listeners will immediately be turned off thinking this is some 80s glam band.

To talk about the album, Dale's lyrics are quite in-your-face, a bit off-putting for some Christian listeners, but I've always found it to be a breath of fresh air in a market full of safe cookie-cutter music. His voice is as powerful as ever and he does show it. Troy's got a cool 70s grunge guitar tone going on throughout the album, and many solid riffs that made "Snakes" such a listenable album. Lawrence's bass playing is solid, and Mike's drumming keeps the songs punchy and alive. This foursome works well together, it's a shame that I believe Mike won't be recording with the band anymore.

Regardless, if you were a Bride fan of the past, get this album. If you are a current fan, get this album. If you've never heard of Bride but like your rock lean, mean, and crunchy, get this album.
