Synopsis

Product Description
Hughes has carved out an impressive career in the contemporary jazz arena. His first two albums, Between Dusk and Dreaming and Under One Sky, firmly established him as one of the foremost guitarists and composers in the genre, perfectly blending his fluid and emotive guitar style into an exciting, melodic mix of Latin, Jazz and World Music compositions. After being picked as a winner in JAZZIZ Magazine's "Guitars On Fire" competition his subsequent recordings Straight To You, One 2 One, Shakin Not Stirred and Along the Way have received critical acclaim and major radio air play from coast to coast. With his sizzling fret work and infectious compositions the media are accurate in saying: "Both a great artist and an accessible one. His passion is so obvious, intense and contagious, that his audience shares it. Brian has received the SOCAN/BMI "Jazz & Instrumental Composer of the Year" Award six times from 1997 to 2006 and the title track from Shakin Not Stirred was featured on an episode of HBO s Sex and the City . Also well known for his 20 year parallel career performing and recording with world renowned vocalist Loreena McKennitt, Brian s skills as a musician (guitars, oud, bouzouki) and his production talents are evident on her current platinum recording An Ancient Muse , the concert DVD Nights From The Alhambra , filmed in Granada, Spain and her past seven multi-platinum recordings. Brian has just completed a 2007 World tour with McKennitt performing 83 concerts in 12 countries around the globe and has appeared with Loreena on the "Late Show" with David Letterman and received a Juno (Canadian Grammy) nomination as "Producer of the Year " for his work on the platinum selling Loreena McKennitt album The Visit . Brian has also Produced several international Platinum selling albums for Greek recording artists Evanthia Reboutsika, Yannis Kotsiras and Panayotis Kalantzopoulos including the soundtrack for A Touch of Spice the top grossing film in Greek cinema history. He has also accompanied Celtic music legends, The Chieftains, on several tours.

CD Reviews

Smooth melodies woven with great solos by a guitar master.

"This is smooth jazz at it's best. Brian weaves his melodies and solos like silk on skin, and mixes it with a variety of rythmes that range from latin to a blusey feel. He's one of the best, you can't go wrong with this cd."
One incredible cd from one incredible musician!

"Brian Hughes certainly knows what he's doing with that guitar, and it's no wonder why he's my all-time favorite jazz guitarist. Here's my track-by-track review: 1. Shakin Not Stirred- a nice way to kick off the album, very up-beat with a late 60s feel. Great piano solo by Les Portelli 2. Ready for Freddie- typical Brian Hughes- a smooth, mid-tempo song that puts me in a great mood. Featuring excellent trumpet work by Steve McDade 3. Once Again- a slow, sexy ballad that will make you think of the Bahamas on a summer night 4. For You- a very up-beat, postitive tune that just shows how well Brian can pluck those strings! 5. The Beat- my favorite song on this cd. It has a real Brazilian samba feel to it. Kinda reminds me of "Postcards from Brazil" from his One 2 One cd. 6. Man About Town- very nice- kinda reminds me of "Soul Fruit" from his Straight to You cd. 7. There She Goes- a slow, sexy song with more great trumpet work by Steve McDade(damn those two make a good pair!) 8. On Moonless Nights- another smoky ballad, sorta like Once Again 9. Smile- the title says it all 10. For You(remix)- A very cool remix of the song, featuring Third ForceThis cd belongs in the hands of ANYONE who likes smooth jazz, Brazilian samba, late 60s funk, new age, light rock, or pop, or all of the above."
A very nice blend of smooth jazz, Latin, & late 60's funk

"Brian Hughes is one of my all-time favorite guitarists, along with George Benson, Chuck Loeb, Norman Brown, Peter White, and Carlos Santana. This is a very good cd. The best tracks are Shakin Not Stirred, For You, On Moonless Nights, & Man About Town. A must for anyone who likes guitar music."
