Ricky Coogan | Eagramsville, PA | 11/29/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "It made me really mad to read that review about how this album (and Braid as a whole) was "random" and "choatic" music. WHAT?? This guy said he was into more "poppier emo", which I respect and love (Get up Kids + The Anniversary=Best Show Ever) but I was so pissed when he said he couldn't respect Braid. Admittedly, Braid takes some getting used to, but everything is there! The amazing lyrics, voices, drums, timing, guitar, everything! This is the best album I own (at this point in my life) and I think Braid is under-respected. If you think they suck, then I think that may show a very shallow approach to emo, obviously this isn't true for everyone and I apologize but I guess I'm just mad at that one guy who said Braid was bad. Anyway, I also reccomend Sunny Day Real Estate, Knapsack, The Promise Ring, and making a change of styles here, Soul Coughing, who I realized are one of the best bands around (even though they broke up). Boo hoo. I'm sure you're glad that you wasted your time reading all this. Sorry." Hello J. Holmes | 12/30/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "Yes, well, first let me say in response to the guy who took TGUK's reccomendation, just because they listen to it doesn't mean it sounds exactly like them. braid has heavier vocals than most super-poppy emo-bands, and the vocals sort of sound like cap'n jazz. they sing about stuff other than girls and although they sound chaotic, it is obvious by listening to their songs that this is intentional. it brings a kind of splintered painful sound, and it makes you sad in a different way than TGUK or promise ring. not to mention that this is their best album by far-it isn't an album really, it's a comp. of their singles and songs they put onother comp.'s and stuff. it's really great, and i highly reccomend it for someone who isn't expecting some super-poppy whining about girls." The complexity of progressive shifty rhythems are, in my opinion, beyond 90% of all radio bands. Bob Nana's lyrics are serinading, the guitar and base playing are original and mesmerising, and the intricate drumming is comparable to any awsome drummer there is. all in all this cd's complexities are extrordinarily in a new light of their own"
