My favorite Brahms First

"This is personally my favorite of Brahms 1st Symphony. It has the power of the Bruno Walter-Columbia Symphony recording but the clarity and purity of the Karajan-Vienna version. It seems to me the symphonies of Brahms on CD have a problem that they are either too old and sonically poor, or they are played with too much emotion and romance, as in the Karajan version, or the orchestration is too "muddy" and unclear. This Brahms symphony suffers from none of it. It sounds fresh, exciting, beautifully authentic, sweeping and it is clear and clean, thanks to being recorded at Abbey Road Studios around 1990. Gorgeous!"
