"2003's Photon album left off with Boom Boom Satellites continuing along their amalgamation of trance, break-beat, acid jazz, rock, and everything else under the sun. Almost two years later and the dynamic duo of Michiyuki Kawashima and Masayuki Nakano return with a new spin to their eclectic brand of music.

Full of Elevating Pleasures is, in my opinion, quite a departure from their earlier material. I remember hearing that the guys were going to go for a more "punk"-like sound on this record, but I wouldn't classify it as punk, at least not by American standards. However, this album is definitely more rock oriented than anything else in their catalogue.

Leading off the record is "Rise And Fall", a slow build on a moving song. The added vocals of back-up singers on this song (and a few others) give it almost a Southern-soulfullness to the techno-enhanced guitar and drum work. "Moment I Count" is probably my current favorite song just because of the strange vocal stylings and effects on said vocals. "Propeller" goes back to a hip-hop influence that hasn't been heard much since Umbra's "This Reality is A Fantasy, But This Fantasy is Killing Me" featuring Chuck D. I'm not much of a fan of either of those songs, but it's an interesting departure from the rest of the music on the album and the song clocks in at under two minutes so I'm not going to complain any about it. "Dive For You" was featured in the new Appleseed movie and was the first bit of new music from BBS that I had the pleasure of hearing, and now hearing the full song it's even better than the taste I had of it some time ago.

I'd highly recommend the new effort from Boom Boom Satellites if you're already a fan of their talent. If you're into more of the electronical side of their music, it does seem to take a bit of a backseat this time around, but it's still there. If these guys couldn't pull of the rock I wouldn't be giving it 5 stars."

"I'M A BIG BOOM BOOM SATELLITES FAN AND THIS CD IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY. THE SONGS ANTHEM AND DIVE FOR YOU APPEARED ON THE APPLESEED SOUNDTRACK AND THEY REAPPEAR HERE. BBS HAS MASTERFULLY COMBINED VARIOUS SOUNDS AND RELEASED YET ANOTHER GREAT ALBUM.



WHEN YOU HEAR THE OPENING TO RIDE ON, YOU KNOW YOU'VE GOT A GREAT SONG. THE JAPANESE DUO IS ABLE TO CREATE GREAT SONGS AS IF ITS LIKE BEATING SSX TRICKY, YET THE SONGS AREN'T SHORT. A WORTHY BUY THIS CD IS."
