One of the best Bach productions ever

"If you like four part Bach chorale singing or Bach's Geistlich Leider (Spiritual Songs) then this album is an absolute must. In his usual but unique way, Helmuth Rilling has brought together and created a magnificent production, this time a two-CD collection of Bach's 'private' songs (see also his other Ein Choralbuch, Haenssler No. 82). The beauty of the passing tones, the changing accompaniment and solo voices, the clarity of the sung text, the balanced elegance of the choir and the collection's sacred simplicity reveal Bach's mind and spirit as much as his St. Matthew Passion or the Agnus Dei of the B Minor. To take it all in one much not be rushed nor must one look for blasts of surround sound - simply follow the words in German (with clear translations in three languages) and thereby enter Bach's heart."
