A Paradise of Baroque Lyricism
Daniel R. Greenfield | Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States | 04/06/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Bonporti (1672-1749) was an Italian priest/composer with superlative musical training in the violin. It's likely that he studied under the legendary Corelli, for there is certainly a Corellian feel to these beautifully wrought little inventioni. With all the baroque and early music albums that I have bought over the past several years, there are only a small handful that I would want to take with me to that proverbial desert island. Trevor Pinnock's Corelli Concerti Grossi is certainly one. This album is another. I don't think I will ever tire of hearing Chiara Banchini play these inventive and lyrical little pieces. There is great melodic charm scattered abundantly throughout both discs. Banchini of course plays baroque violin, and plays with great finesse. If you have a penchant for Italian baroque, then you really cannot afford to pass up Bonporti."
