"In The Forefront" is a 2-CD set that traces the sonic history of one of Chicago's master composers/arrangers and sound poets. A force on the Chicago and international scene for over 40 years, Bobby Lewis is a living history of jazz and modern composition. The bulk of this CD was pulled from two previously issued LP albums, "Incantation" and "In The Forefront," long out of print and rare collector's items, and unreleased recorded music from 1977. All material was recorded at the famous, and sadly now shuttered Universal Recording Studio "A", under the engineering and production direction of owner Murray Allen. These original compositions include the core ensemble of George Bean, Russ Iverson, Art Hoyle, Rufus Reid and Jerry Coleman with special guest appearances by Larry Novak, Cy Touff, Steve Laspina and vocalist Bonnie Herman. There has never been a sound as fresh and unique as this massive brass attack. Yesterday sounds like today, projecting into the future of jazz, with large ensemble brass execution!
