CD Reviews

Classic Bobby Goldsboro
D. L. Brown | kingsthorpe, queensland Australia | 05/24/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Typical Goldsboro, smooth, easy listening. Generally his songs have meaningful lyrics/stories. This Cd is no exception.
However the only critisism of his singing style is on some songs he has a "forced" vibrato. It can be annoying, but this is a known quality in his singing. You either love it or hate it. For me its Goldsboro. I recommend this Cd.
Of course the best song on the Cd is his classic "Honey", followed by Autumn of my life."
Close, But Not Quite

"It seems that no matter how many Greatest Hits collections that are released by Bobby Goldsboro, they still put tracks in that were never hits. By hits, I mean released as a single. The best collection I've ever seen by this artist was called, The 10th Anniversary Collection. It was a two album set released in 1975. Why hasn't this been released on CD? It was originally on the United Artists label. I can still see that green cover with his photo in the center. This collection comes very close, but it's still missing a few hits. Where is the semi religious song, 'Come Back Home'? And the 1974 hit 'I Wrote A Song'? But if you want a reasonably good collection of his hits, this is about as good as it gets for now."
An Album Ahead of Its Time, More Meaningful Today Than Ever

"I grew up with each of these hits and the one song that is haunting and carries more meaning today with what is going on in the world around us is Broomstick Cowboy. That song hits the mark about a young child on a Broomstick Horse as his Father is telling him, one day, he will have to put away the toys, face the real world, that he may become a warrior and may have to kill. All the while, the child is unaware of the message a father passes to his son. The haunting part is the passionate way Goldsboro delivers it."
