CD ReviewsThe other side of Bobby Darin 08/22/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "Fans of Bobby Darin's "cocktail lounge" sides will be estranged from these two albums. Recorded on Atlantic in 1966, Darin did a 180 and lowered his range to that of a folkie. His voice takes on a singer/songwriter subtlety that is immensely moving. What is most surprising is how well this change works! Wonderful interpretations of popular folk tunes of the time make this a special set. Contains bonus tracks. Recommended for those Darin fans longing for a change of pace." Bobby as you've never heard him David Bennett | Ohio, United States | 09/08/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "I didn't even know I was a fan of Bobby Darin until I heard this CD. This CD contains the full contents of his 1966 album, "If I Were a Carpenter" and his 1967 album, "Inside Out." Five outtakes are also included. During this time period Bobby's music sounded more like folk than his previous, more popular material. The recordings included here are in stereo, and according to some listeners, the stereo versions don't sound as good as the mono ones. I have heard both, and I actually prefer the stereo.Bobby covers a diverse group of writers such as Tim Hardin ("Reason To Believe," "Black Sheep Boy," etc), Buffy Sainte-Marie ("Until It's Time For You To Go"), Bonner and Gordon ("Lady Fingers," "Me About You"), John Sebastian ("Lovin You," etc), and even John Denver ("For Baby," penned under his real name)! Bobby also wrote some gems himself, such as the beautiful "Amy," and the gritty, Johnny Riversesque, "My Baby Needs Me." Overall this is an excellent package. The price here at amazon.com is inexpensive for 27 songs, all which are very good. Try it and discover a Bobby Darin you never knew..."
