Looking for irreverence in your holiday nut mix? Bob Rivers does such a great job of social, political, and seasonal satire under the guise of many a familiar holiday tune that he's lucky he hasn't been run over by a reindeer. Rivers apes all the department-store Santas (sung to the tune of "Here Comes Santa Claus") with "There's Another Santa Claus," lambastes "Teddy Kennedy the Red-Nosed Senator," and sends up Marlon Brando's Godfather in the inspired "A Letter to Santa," which warns of Santa's movement into mob territory. There are a few clunkers among the moving and snoozing targets, but Rivers nearly always elicits a chuckle. The biggest yuks, though, come on the title track as he reaches back to Black Sabbath's "I Am Ironman" classic to turn dear old Santa into a heavy-metal monster. Call it "Headnog"--and get it for the unholy rollers on your list. --Martin Keller

I peed!

"A couple of years ago, the lyrics to "Walkin' 'Round in Women's Underwear" were passed around the 'net with no credit given. It was hilarious. The following year I found the CD and discovered Bob Rivers' gift for satire.
Audio production is hurting a bit; Most of the music tracks are synthesized with few live musicians. But clearly the money and effort saved was spent on good singers and vocal production. That and the brilliant satirical lyrics are what makes the album work. In questionable taste? Definitely. Politically incorrect ? Oh yeah. But I've been a Spike Jones and Stan Freberg fan for years, so this is my cup of eggnog. This is absolutely a must-have for anyone who collects comedy recordings."

"It started when the local DJ started playing "Walking Round In Women's Underwear" during the run up to Christmas. This was a big hit with the guys where I work, and I wanted to know more about this track. When I came across the CD, I thought "this should be interesting" and sent off for it. I'm glad I did, because it's a real hoot. Rivers sends up loads of my (and I dare say your) Xmas favourites (O Christmas tree played on a chainsaw, for example?) and the genres run from rock (I can't hear My Favourite Things from Mary Poppins without thinking of the version on this CD) to classical (the "What's It To Ya" chorus, my pick of the tracks) and while some are obviously there to pad out the space, I think you'll enjoy this one. I certainly did, and maybe I'll get one of Rivers' other CDs for next year."

"My aunt always complained because I didn't listen to Christmas music around the holidays. I Am Santa Claus is hilarious (first Christmas album I actually liked), and she can no longer b!tch at me. The band does a really good job of disguising the song as the original until the vocals come in too. Teddy the red nosed senator, had a very shiny car, and if you ever saw it, you were probably near a bar.... :)"
