---The Bob Brookmeyer Quartet (Pacific Jazz 16 [10"] ---Traditionalism Revisited (Pacific Jazz 1233) ---The Street Swingers (World Pacific 1239) ---Kansas City Revisited (UA 5008) ---Stretching Out (UA 5023) The music on all 3 CDs is wonderful. The "Quartet" date from 1954 is my favorite by a tad over "Stretching Out" and "Kansas City Revisited." The tunes, a good combination of originals and standards, are done beautifully. "Libert belle" and "Last chance" are highlights. Sidemen on the other dates include Jimmy Giuffre, Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Paul Quinichette, Jim Hall, and Harry Edison, among others. This set is one of the best of the Mosaic Select issues so far. Highly recommended." |
