CD Reviews

Very entertaining from start to finish

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Unlike many hip-hop CD's out this year, Boac's album can be summed up in one word: Fun. It's not overly serious in addressing current problems, nor is it Boac trying to prove how he'll rip any emcee to shreds. Nothing on this album will change the face of hip-hop, nor will it drop any heavy science on the listener, but it will entertain them if they approach it with an open mind. The album is just fun to listen to, from start to finish, and it is evident that Boac had fun making it. Although he hails from San Fransico, he flows with a heavy Oakland accent, much like Hiero. Production here is nearly seamless (there's a live instrument feel to many tracks), with the use of the Zelda theme song as a nice touch too. Altogether, the album is highly entertaining, especially due to the way that humor is injected into it ("You Are What You Eat", "I've Got Your Phone #"), which diversifies the album. Boac is the first member out of the Earthlings to drop a full legnth on CD, and if this is any indicator of what's to come, this crew might be right up there with left coast collectives like Living Legends or Hieroglyphics."
