Synopsis

Album Description
Blow Your Cool presents 20 previously uncomped prog/psych assaults from the UK & Europe, 1969-1974. So here we are again one and all; scoop neck Mr. Freedom T's freshly laundered, split-knee loons fashionably fading, with another 20 swift excursions into that amorphous hybrid of prog and psych, so loved by today's cognoscenti. And what nefarious delights are in store for the voyager? May we present the young Linda Lewis, Atomic Rooster's drummer re-located to Italy, a top prog outfit comprising four Moroccan Jews and a Belgian soul band gone all weird. With 16 other strange pleasures, how could any self-respecting head refuse? Compiled by legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). Artists include: Paradise Hammer, Barry Freeman & Strange Power, Primitive Man, The Foundations, Dream Police, Tritons, Mogul Thrash, Ferris Wheel, Triangle, Zior, The Rattles, Freedom, Bluebeard, Paul Ryder & Time Machine, Variations, Egg, Jess & James, Bedlam, Swegas and Cosmic Dealer.

CD Reviews

Horrible!
D.L.J.Mann | UK | 12/01/2009
(2 out of 5 stars)

"Despite Nick Saloman's description of Blow Your Cool as an 'amorphous hybrid of prog and psych', this is hard rock, and I mean hard in every sense of the word, played by boffins. Hard and utterly horrible, devoid of a decent tune - misogynistic, end of the world gob. Had Bamber Gascoigne asked the beards from the early days of University Challenge to list their favourite bands, I bet they'd have replied 'Egg', 'Blue Beard' or 'Paradise Hammer'. I like the fact that 'Zior' were from Essex and formed by ex-members of the 'Cardboard Orchestra.' I like, too, that Swegas' keyboard player went on to compose the theme tune for 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.' Best track by far is 'Can't Stop Now' by Ferris Wheel featuring vocals by Linda Lewis. Oooh there's a woman in the room. Thank god someone had the temerity to get off their a**e, pull back the drapes and open the window. As much as I dislike this comp, I'm a huge fan of both the label and Nick Saloman's deadication."
