A Hard Rock Sound In An Unlikely Package
Micah I. Thomas | Surf City, CA | 04/18/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I first stumbled across these girls at a bar/local music show venue in Southern California. Knowing nothing other than to expect a band comprised of three girls from Okinawa (my mom's original home), I figured I'd give it a try. My expectations fell far short of the pure, sonic melee that I would be subjugated to over the course of an hour.

Bleach 03 is comprised of three, dimunitive Okinawan girls that can lay waste to the far majority of the American hard rock soundscape. Kanna, lead vocalist and guitarist, has the kind of punk swagger that makes you want believe in punk again. With a cute face, an impressive command of her guitar, and a voice to rock your socks off, be prepared to be floored by the real-life rock presence of Kanna. This is all nice and dandy, because without Suke, the bassist and backup vocalist, Bleach 03 would only be a B-rate Hard Rock band - because, what is a hard rock band without the feral screams and roars? The first time I heard Suke scream into her microphone, two thoughts crossed my mind - "Good lord, from what level of hell has this girl gone through to muster such a vocal fury?" & "Jonathan Davis - meet the sponge that soaked up all the frenzy, pain, and energy you lost so many years ago." Suke can and will knock the pants off any hard rocker who thinks his rock scream is just what rock fans have been waiting for. Remember back when Korn was first hitting the tour circuit and Jonathan Davis amazed us all with his agony, usually culminating in his trademarked fits on the stage floor? Suke has got the same thing going on, but that much more real and scary. In concert, when she screamed and hit the floor - seemingly abandoning the entirey of the world in her anguish - you can't help but be sucked up into the passion of the moment.

Bleach 03 is everything that American Hard Rock has been missing for far too long - real passion, loud, crashing guitars, real rock attitude, and an animalistic scream that will put your hairs on end. Don't believe me? Buy the CD - much of their stage presence has translated surprisingly well. But more importantly, seek out these girls live and in concert if and when possible."
