A refreshing sampler of South American rhythms
Richard Diaz | 03/20/2001
(3 out of 5 stars)

"A large majority of dance music seems content to repeat itself, and let's be honest, most of the time we want to hear more of the same; fifteen bucks a throw sets a low threshold for experimenting. Yet there's a need to try endeavors similar but different to our preferences, to cleanse the aural palette. Sorta like tasting chocolate to appreciate vanilla. Which brings us to Virtual Brazilia. Think house music at midtempo, heavily layered in percussion and laced with live musicians. An organic approach to dance that draws on Latin, Brazilian, and Afro Cuban rhythms while showcasing artists around the world, a design that carried the sumptuous Bossa Mundo...When Brazil Meets the World to success last year (4/5 stars).Virtual Brazilla struggles at times by reaching too eclectic over 18 tracks. The scuzzy lounge affair "Chocolate Elvis" from Tosca and jungle howl "La Jordin Secret" from Jazzanova settle uncomfortably between smoother pieces by Mo Horizons and Rain for Rent. Thankfully, there's still enough to enjoy courtesy of Miguel Migs (slick wiggler "Chips & Samba"), Funky Low Lives and a host of likeminded talents. Now if your tastes don't accommodate this world affair, well, it'll sound like two hours of cocktail tunes. The rest of us get a refreshing sampler of South American rhythms to stir our interests."
Wonderful beats
Glenn Wiun | Edmonton, Alberta Canada | 02/05/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This double CD features some great DJ's and equally fantastic track selection. From German kings, Jazzanova, to the friends of Rio, this double set is very consistent. It gets better with every listen as the beats sink through. No real favourites as they're all good. This infectious CD sounds good on Sunday morning or Saturday night. A regular on my playlist."
