CD ReviewsRaw NWOBHM haskpts | 09/10/2005 (3 out of 5 stars) "Bitches Sin is one of the rawer NWOBHM bands of the early to mid 80s. In August of 1980 they ventured to the Smile Studios in Manchester, where they recorded their first demo over a period of 10 hours. The seven track demo tape - featured on this reissue - is called "Twelve Pounds And No Kinks". After a one off single with Neat Records, the band went on to record another demo, "Your Place Or Mine", after this (with a different line-up) - Bitches Sin blasted out 4 intense tunes on BBC The Friday Rock show - which rival some of their NWOBHM peers such as Jaguar and Raven.
Bitches Sin (in many various line-ups) later released 2 full length albums Predator (1982) and Invaders (1986 and a redone/re-recorded version of Invaders in 1988), and 1 (EP) No More Chances (1983). Line-up: - Ian Toomey (Guitar) (All Tracks) - Pete Toomey (Guitar) (All Tracks) - Alan "Cocky" Cockburn (Vocals) (Tracks 1 - 7) - Tony Tomkinson (Vocals) (Tracks 8 - 11) - Perry Hodder (Bass) (1 - 7) - Dave Newsham (Bass) ( 8 - 11) - Billy Knowles (Drums) (1 - 7) - Tony Leece (Drums) (8 - 11) * After their first demo they later re-recorded Down The Road (this version is on the Lead Weight compilation) and recorded two new songs in the Neat Records studios, Always Ready (For Love) and Sign Of The Times. * They later went back for the last time to the Neat Records studios and recorded Strangers On The Shore (later on the Heavy Metal Heroes compilation). The version on Heavy Metal Heroes is 4:07, the version on Predator is 3:25. They sound very similar to me, although they have different line-ups. Probably like the HMH version slightly better. > So, for lovers of intense guitar driven (almost to speed metal level parts in some of the guitar soloing) New Wave Of British Heavy Metal - you'll most likely like the BBC The Friday Rock Show ... these 4 cuts blaze. The first demo is more subdued overall, but shows the very early beginnings of Bitches Sin. " |
