CD Reviews

Morris: One of the Greats
John L. Leckel | St. Louis | 01/09/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Morris is one of the great female saloon singers. Her subtle takes on classic pop tunes rank her with Chris Connor and Jeri Sothern. Nobody can approach her work on "Guess Who I Saw Today" and "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out to Dry." Morris exemplifies a kind of singing that puts the screamers and the baroque, over-decorated stylists of today to shame."

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Morris is the epitome of the piano bar saloon singer. No female pianist/vocalist can compare with her presentation of both the lyrics and music of the great 'ART' songs OF THE 1950'S. Her impeccable enunciation of each syllable, her in depth understanding of the mood and meaning of each phrase; her smokey, sensuous delivery assures her ranking with the great story telling vocalists of the 20th Century."
Quite Exquisite

"Sometimes we take a chance--after analyzing whatever written research we can get or if we're lucky, a sound byte or two. Sometimes we just take a chance. Audrey does not sell these CD's on her site (I assume she cannot legally). But a lot of the historians say these were great albums. I bought them. They are wonderful. If you love Jeri Southern, you will love Audrey's voice. In fact, Audrey may be a little cleaner and just as sexy. Her version of Guess who I saw today may have been copied by Nancy Wilson. Which is better? Cabernet or Merlot? So,"
