CD Reviews

The best sounding versions of Bing Crosby's Decca Christmas
Bradley Olson | Bemidji, MN United States | 12/06/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD, from 1986, compiled by Steve Hoffman while he was at MCA, is the best sounding CD of all of the songs, because they came right from the Decca mono masters, and it was the first Bing Crosby Christmas CD that didn't come from LP production masters. The CD is a compilation of highlights from his 2 classic Christmas albums, Merry Christmas and That Christmas Feeling, plus a Christmas greeting from Bing, Jack Kapp (the founder of Decca Records), Connie Boswell, Bob Crosby and Victor Young) that was previously unreleased until this compilation came out. The breakdown is this:

1. White Christmas (1947 re-recording)

2. Silent Night 1947 re-recording

3. It's Beginning To Look Like Christmas (1951 original recording)

4. Adeste Fideles (1942 re-recording)

5. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (1942 original)

6. Faith Of Our Fathers (1942 original)

7. I'll Be Home For Christmas (1943 original)

8. Christmas In Killarney (1951 original)

9. The First Noel (1949 original)

10. You're All I Want For Christmas (1949 original recording)

11. O Fir Tree Dark (1947 original recording)

12. Christmas Carols: Deck the Halls/Away In A Manger/I Saw Three Ships (1949 original recordings)

13. Christmas Carols: Good King Wenceslas/We Three Kings/Angels We Have Heard On High (1949 original recordings)

14. The Christmas Song (1947 Original recording)

15. Bing, Jack Kapp, Connie Boswell, Bob Crosby and Victor Young Send Christmas Greetings To Decca Employees, 1940 (Previously unreleased)

In short, if you want the best sound possible of these classics, this is the CD to buy."
A great addition to any collection

"I just wanted to say THANKS to Bradley Olson for his review above. I have been searching for this CD for a while now. I lost this CD in a move a few years back and just couldnt remember which CD it was - until I read the review.

This CD really puts me in the christmas mood - its also facinating to listen to these "christmas classics" being sung for the first time!!!

This CD is a MUST HAVE for any Bing Crosby Fan."
