An amazing sampler....
Penumbra | Atlanta, GA USA | 12/31/2001

"Sit up and take notice, for any serious fan of the guitar this French produced CD is worth it's weight in gold! They've taken some of the world's greatest guitarists and allowed them to play a generous sampling of works by the world's greatest composers of guitar music. To expand a bit on the notes Amazon has provided on this page, each artist or group performs approximately ten minutes of work by a single composer. For example, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet is performing three pieces from Manuel de Falla's "El Amor Brujo." David Russell transcribes and performs three selections from Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite BWV 1034. The Assad brothers treat us to three movements from Joaquin Rodrigo's Tonadilla; Aussel performs Scarlatti; and Isaac gives us the work of Astor Piazzolla, the father of Nuevo Tango. The recording quality is the highest; the sound is round and rich and lovely. This CD has an attractively low price tag and,... If you love beautiful guitar music, order this now before they vanish."
Great Acoustic Sound

"Very good sample of some of today's top classical guitarists. The performances and recording quality are superb. I love the LA Guitar Quartet but am not crazy about their de Falla selection. I also don't like the last piece, which is unfortunately 12 minutes long. Everything else shines, though. The performances by David Russell, the Assad Brothers, Roberto Aussel, and Scott Tennant are outstanding. I have the second volume of this collection, but I like the selections on the first volume much more."

"This is a good value for the money and has lovely music.
I recommend it as an introduction to classical guitar music."
