CD Reviews

Excellent Solo Acoustic - Rare Recordings
Kevin J. Roberts | 08/03/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is a superb example of solo Bert Jansch. His unique singing voice has never really changed much, from his earliest recordings in 1965 until today. All you have to do is listen to the sound samples posted on Amazon to understand how great these recordings are and how wrong the 2 star review is. I never understand reviews that say "This album is no good because it is not 'that' album". These are very fine recordings of Bert that were originally issued as a 500 copy limited edition LP in Belgium. When I showed Bert my copy, he was very surprised and said that even he did not have a copy. I recommend getting this before it goes out of print and is sold for huge amounts."
Career filler

"This Jansch album comes from his "depressed period" of the 1980s. That pretty much sums it up, unfortunately. Both the material and the performance is very lacklustre, and I would recommend *any* other Jansch album over this one. Why has this album been made available on cd when much better ones--e.g. "L. A. Turnaround," "Avocet," and "A Rare Conundrum"--haven't? The world is just one big puzzle..."
