CD Reviews

Handel and Bernstein

"Another great recording by Bernstein. The music breathes like life --Bernstein may not be what purists want but he makes the music come alive and that is what counts--Also the soloists are impeccable--The glorious soprano Adele Addison and the remarkable tenor John McCullom -- two wonderful singers who are underrecorded-- this may be McCullom's only CD. The chorus and orchestra are superb--the trumpet and cello soloists deserve special praise but so do the other intrumentalists who contribute solos. The final soprano duet with trumpet is awesome and has not been duplicated with such beauty on any other recording. Buy this and just enjoy great music in a superlative perfomance."
The real thing

"I own an old LP with this record, still in like new condition. It's the best " Ode to St. Cecilia's Day" I know, beating hands down the versions by Harnoncourt, Wilckes and others. A pleasure to hear. I have the text, wow, Handel is the best composer ever! I ordered two, since real jewels like this record goes out of print quickly. To my knowledge, it's available only at Amazon. Don't pass up this treasury, excellent recordings disapear fast, like the Handel & Bach works released by Basf, with the fantastic " Collegium Aureum " (auf-original-instrumenten...), the renaissance music performed by Linde Consort, Ambrosian Singers, New York Pro Musica. Act now or cry later."
Every time it sounds newer.

"What I am amazed at about this CD is that it sounds newer every time I listen to it. I like Handel's music played with original instruments, but I cannot expect I can listen to it ten times without feeling bored. But it is not the case with this CD. You can listen to it many times without being bored. No. The more you listen to it, the more you will find in it which makes it new, deep and great. Listening to this CD, I cannot stop admiring the greatness of Handel, and that of Bernstein."
