Synopsis

Amazon.com
Italian composer Berio is a wizard of language, form, and genre; so this disc, presenting vocal works ranging from folksong arrangements to avant-garde settings of E.E. Cummings, is an excellent rendering of the artist. Berio loves literature, and some of his favorite writers--cummings and James Joyce--make appearances here. It's like reading a gifted writer's personal sketchbook. Christine Schadeberg sings with the Musicians' Accord in fine performances. --Joshua Cody

CD Reviews

Poorly engineered recording.
07/18/2002
(2 out of 5 stars)

"One of the worst engineered recordings in recent times. Recorded in a very reverberant Church in NYC. Engineering is amateur, and performances are at best serviceable. Stick with the (excellent) Berberian recording of Circles (still available on Wergo). Many other far superior recordings of the Folk Songs on the market; ditto the Sequenza. One to skip. Shame on MODE for this release."
