Synopsis

Album Description
Bergraven turns the traditional blast-and-flay aesthetic of "frost bitten grimness" on its ear and comes at you with sweeping riff dirges, winding cinematic passages, melodic guitar interludes, tortured-yet-vaguely authoritarian and Germanic vocal overtones and - get this - ambient pedal steel excursions. All of which is enough to make your head spin, especially if you're down with weirdness. "Dodsvisioner" is not your typical black metal experience, and Bergraven is not your standard Swedish killing machine.

Unorthodox

(4 out of 5 stars)

"This album struck me quickly as one of the more original atmospheric/black albums I've purchased. I was originally expecting something more conventional such as the last Bergraven release but was pleasently surprised at the musicianship on this recording. The overall mood of the album is exceptional in its recurring themes and unorthodox approach to composition. Initially I noticed the cover concept which is remarkably suitable and fitting to the theme of this recording. Bleak, dark, meloncholy, full and embracing. Well arranged, mixed and mastered. This album is of a breed of its own and I find it difficult and almost insulting to the music to attempt to fit it into a catagory, though if I had to I'd call it depressive and non-abrasive black metal."
