Synopsis

Album Description
"I was the singer and songwriter for Screeching Weasel for 13 non-consecutive years. I was the guitarist/co-singer/co-songwriter for The Riverdales for two years and I like cats." - Ben Weasel Ben Weasel is much more than just that. He is also a respected author and infamously outspoken punk rock personality. The author of two well received books, a novel, "Like Hell," and a collection of columns and essays, "Punk Is A Four-Letter Word," Ben Weasel returns to the production of fiercely original and innovative punk records with the release of Fidatevi. .Fidatevi is Ben Weasel's first solo album, and is the most daring, mature and expressive musical work he has done. "Fidatevi" has two meanings: trust in oneself and trust between people. Ben's incredible brand of punk rock songwriting is this time focused into is also a personal and positive album - more introspective than anything Ben has previously done. Noting that the album was meant as a series of "Notes to Self," influenced partly by his interest in Buddhism, Ben says, "The music was inspired by whatever goes on in my head that creates tunes. The lyrics are based on experiences or insights gained by practicing secular sitting meditation, as well as ideas I came across and personalized through the study of the works of authors as diverse as Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Henry David Thoreau, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Pema Chodron, Ralph Waldo Emerson and others." This album features the great tunes of one of punk's masters as well as lyrics which illustrate introspection and reflection. Keeping it in the extended Screeching Weasel/Lookout!/Panic Button family, Matt from Teen Idols played the drums, Dan Vapid (SCREECHING WEASEL/ SLUDGEWORTH/ MOPES /METHADONES) added guitar and bass and sang backing vocals, and Mass Giorgini produced. Fidatevi was recorded at Acme Studio in Chicago.

CD Reviews

Ben Weasel Is the shizzy

"c'mom, how could you not like this guy?anything he does musically is just awesome. and it's hard to find someone to stay a true punk for as long as he has. Screeching Weasel is one of my favorite bands. and Ben's Solo effort is nothing less then perfect. I've read reviews of people saying they dont like this CD, that it's not Punk, or too far away from SW...of course it isnt SW. it's Ben weasel. I look at this record like I look at Jesse Michaels and Common rider. people dont like it because it isnt like Op Iv. well why would anyone want to recreate what they have already done? please, dont expect this to be another screeching weasel record, because it by no means is. this is ben weasel. sincere and solo. everyone Punk or not, should own this record"
I dig!

"Honestly, I feel that the editorial is just disrespectful. Ben has stayed true to his beliefs and ideas, regardless of what the yappers might say. "Emo" liner notes from Ben say that it's for the people who get Screeching Weasel and always have. I guess some people get it and some don't. Me, I hear nothing but three chords and some of the best points of view in music or anywhere. Hell, don't even listen, just read the lyrics, you'll see what we mean."
