CD Reviews

Sound quality?

"I was very happy to see this finally released!

Unfortunately, the sound quality is very distorted and poor... to the point

that I think they may have been better off capturing it off an old copy of

the vinyl. Sad."
Shame on Cherry Pop--if you're not going to remaster it then

"Tragic when a reissue with such a superb track listing proves to have sound quality not even worthy of a vinyl record. This is really just a slap in the face to those of us who have waited SO long for this exact package. The sound is muddy and muffled, and if you try to reduce the bass or raise the treble on your stereo to fix the problem, you are greeted by a tin wall of sound with no dynamics and often shrill vocals.

Ironically, the great liner notes inside go on and on about how Belouis Some and this album were never given the respect they deserve. So, this lo-fidelity remaster is supposed to be doing so? Wonder what Belouis thinks when he pops this one into the CD player.

I think some of the bonus tracks actually sound a little bit better (the 12" mix of Target Practice actually sounds better on this CD than it does on my vinyl record in terms of audio dynamics). Also of note is the fact that the 12" mix of Some People, which I've been dying to have on CD for YEARS, is actually featured here with the left and right stereo channels REVERSED. In other words, everything that came out of the right speaker on the original 12" vinyl now comes out of the left speaker, and vice versa.

Cut your loses and pull this mess off the market Cherry Pop, because this is an insult to the few people who still appreciate CDs and are helping to keep you in business."
Sound quality questionable

"It is nice to finally have this title released on cd, although a very rare promo does exist. But, the sound quality is a bit disappointing. I thought the overall sound quality was dull and not sharp, crisp and clear that you might expect for a remastered release and of today's technology. Curious as to where Cherry Red got their source for this one? The bonus tracks are great to have though and good remixes!! The sound quality is better on the old promo if you can find it. Overall, worth the purchase either way."
