MY Eroica
Ralph J. Steinberg | New York, NY United States | 07/29/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I won't mince words here. Furtwangler's famous "Urania" Eroica from 1944 is the king of Eroicas. This is not to say that other great Eroicas are not to be treasured, most of all, Weingartner's, Kempe's, Jochum's lead the field. But for the ultimate in driving passion and grave eloquence, the Furtwangler stands alone. The same is true of the Coriolan Overture which begins this disc. I am sure that most Beethoven lovers know and revere these performances, but in such rich sound! Those old Magnetophon tapes were decades ahead of theit time in terms of sound quality, revealed now in all their glory by Opus Kura (as usual). So enough of my big mouth, just go out and BUY it, already!"
