Mesmerizing insight and supreme inspiration!

Ivan Moravec was the most remarkable pupil of Benedetti Michelangeli, that may evidence itself when we realize the impeccable phrasing, the gamut of tonalities and the sense of expression that makes the sound was not an isolated factor, but the last phase of a process.

In what concerns to his execution of the Fourth Piano Concerto I should qualify as superb permeated of genuine insight and sheer inspiration, and I still wonder why he is not included among the most pyramidal pianists of the Century.

To my view, there are just a few versions that even may match with this one, its supreme perfection is far to be a random experience but the outcome of an extraordinary and zealous process of exploration of the sound and profound knowledge of the score. the level of lyric noblesse and aristocratic refinement run parallel to an Apollonian harmony and Dionysian vitality, a perfect balance between a plain domain of Beethovenian language, that permanent state of change, conceived as synthesis of contrasts, that in its synthesis conveys us to a superior level.

On the other hand, the pianistic texture of Moravec allows him to display, one of the finest performances of Franck's Variations, to finish with this exquisite performance of Ravel.

That CD is a treasure.
