Synopsis

Product Description
The mercurial partnership of Angela Hewitt and Daniel Müller- Schott brought overwhelming intensity and emotional gravitas to their first disc of Beethoven s cello sonatas. Here in this second volume they present two more of these groundbreaking masterpieces, together with the composer s homages to Mozart and Handel works that are equally important components of the cello repertoire. Hewitt s characteristic digital dexterity and deep understanding of the classical style and Müller-Schott s vibrant playing combine to create performances of great energy and sensitivity. Works on the disc include the two sonatas of opus 102 and three sets of variations the Variations in G major on See the conqu ring hero comes from Handel s Judas Maccabaeus WoO45, the Variations in F major on Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen from Mozart s Die Zauberflöte Op. 66 and the Variations in E flat major on Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen from Mozart s Die Zauberflöte WoO46.

Muller-Schott and Hewitt bring a breath of spring!
Robert Stone | 04/15/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The new volume of Beethoven Cello Sonatas by Daniel Muller-Schott (Cello) and Angela Hewitt (Piano) is pure delight - a breath of fresh air for spring. The two sonatas proper (Op.102, No. 1 in C major and No.2 in D major) are played with mastery and verve, and would be a feast in themselves. What makes the disc really special, however, are the two sets of variations - on Haydn's "See the conqu'ring hero" and on Mozart's "Bei Mannern ..." from the Magic Flute. The duo are clealry enjoying themselves playing these pieces, and the result is a real treat."
