CD Reviews

The sound quality is terrible
ba baraccus | somewhere in the los angeles underground | 02/10/2003

"When I saw this CD I had to buy it right away. Richter & Oistrakh playing Beethoven? How could you go wrong with that? These are two incredible musicians playing some beautiful pieces of music, and I can only imagine that they deliver some wonderful performances...That is, I own this CD, and although I've listened to it several times, I still can't tell what on earth they're playing because the audio quality is so terrible. It sounds as though it was recorded on someone's answering machine, then the master tape was left out on a counter under direct sunlight for a decade or two. Awful! This is truly one of the most disappointing purchases I have ever made. Don't make the same mistake."
Golden performances by both Oistrakh and Richter, as usual

"I would like to point something out in reply to the customer who claimed the sound quality to be "terrible". Having purchased the CD myself I'd have to say I am perfectly satisfied with my choice...perhaps it is because I am quite familiar with great performers of the past such as Oistrakh and Richter that I am therefore able to listen beyond the superficial surface noise inherent in all 'old' recordings. Being a musician myself I was also very happy with the freshness of approach which Oistrakh and Richter brought to their Beethoven. Absolutely gold performances, by both of them. So please do listen up, cause they are so worth your attention."
The sound is really bad

"You simply cannot go wrong with that! Marvelous playing! As always with this coupling the interpretation is of heavenly beauty!

To say that: the sound is very poor! Like some legendary recordings from the 78' era (only without "clicks"), doom, it sounds like no mastering was done with it.

It depends on personal preferences, these are my favourite one!"
