Synopsis

Album Description
Review by Dr. Cass F.L. Teague, Jr. First and foremost, Bass P doesn?t spit rhymes about guns, violence, and killing. He keeps it real and his subject matter covers a wide range of topics, including the importance of hip-hop music and friends in his life, his experiences with women and relationships, and breaking down people with big egos. In that this reviewer finds misogynistic, violent and verbal profanity-laced ?niggativistic? rap disturbing and disgusting, this cd is a welcome relief and a breath of fresh air. Lyrically, P is at the top of his game as evidenced in songs such as "Complexity (Let Me In)". This song describes a traumatic life on the verge of depression and death. The life is saved when the subject?s friends help him to realize his talent for hip-hop. With clever analogies like the one used on the title track, Tha 2nd Coming, "This is ?How I?m Comin? like L.L., ?I?m Bad? as hell?" P gives a shout out to one of the true pioneers of the hip-hop game, the multi-talented L.L. Cool J. Bass P collaborated with outstanding musicians, producers and vocalists on this recording. Aljon "Tha Kid" Go handled most of the production, with P producing a handful of tracks himself. Tha Kid plays guitar and keys in the alternative band Mink. Other members of Mink also contributed to "Tha 2nd Coming". Other guests of note include aspiring sultry vocalist Rachel Young and Reck, Bass P?s talented younger brother. "Hybrid Hip-Hop" is a style Bass P calls his own. This unique style is evidenced in tracks like "Party With Me" whereby he paints a picture of a party that moves from the crib to the bars, to the club, then back to the crib for the afterparty. P even speeds up the track and his flow in the final verse to represent the club scene. Bass P?s music combines the best elements from today?s hip-hop along with P?s own style and flavor to take the music in a futuristic direction. He even succeeds in tackling his critics and those ever-present haters with lines like, "You?ve been abandoned like a stray, cook you up like filet" and "All takers, haters, and fakers, leavin? ya holdin? the shortest straw." Favorite tracks, in no particular order: "Complexity (Let Me In)" featuring the beautiful and amazing Jonda Madison of Mink. "Party With Me" with real nice changes in the music and flow, that tie in rhythmically with the rest of the song. "I Thought" featuring Rachel Young, with a catchy R&B-type of hook. "Y?all", featuring Reck, the first song P wrote with his brother. And "What?s Up", a collaboration with Johannes Greer, all about friendship, with a really dope beat, a catchy hook, and a fast-moving flow.
