CD Reviews

Remastered 1976 Barry
Kathy W | Baltimore | 06/29/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This was Barry's 4th album and is an extended version of the original 1976 album. It includes bonus tracks: "Don't Throw It All Away," "Can't Go Back Anymore," "This is Fine," and "I Really Do Write The Songs". There are a total of 15 tracks in all. Total time runs a hair over 49 minutes.

"This One's For You, Daybreak, Weekend in New England, Jump Shout Boogie and Looks Like We Made It" you've probably heard many times before. They are great standard Manilow Musik and are done well, as always.

"You Oughta Be Home With Me, and "Say The Words" are new to me and are great, as is ALL of Barry's tunes. "Riders to the Stars" and "Let Me Go" are on only one or two of my other Barry CDs and I really like them. "All the Time" is beautiful and also seldom on Barry's CDs, as is "See the Show Again" seldom heard and is pretty. The 4 Bonus Tracks include "I Really Do Write the Songs" and are all new to me. Of course, we all know "I Write the Songs," but this is different. It's a funny one about how to write a song.

Nice album and boy! Can ya heah that Brooklyn accent in "I Really Do Write the Songs". Since I'm from Balmer, Merlin (Baltimore, Maryland), I have a wee bit of an accent, too--especially with words like pockeybook and zink. (That's translated as pocketbook and sink in finishing school, but when I failed it 5 years in a row, they threw me out!) Anyway, there's a booklet included with all the words, so ya can sing along with Barry.

Get It For The Previously Unreleased Songs
Howard Wexler | White Plains, NY United States | 05/15/2009

"Listening to this a few weeks ago. Pretty standard early Manilow and then I got to the last four tracks and I was astonished. Can't Go Back Anymore has a wonderful lyric. This Is Fine would fit in perfectly in 2 AM Paradise Cafe, as interesting a song as he has ever done.

And why doesn't he do "I Really Do Write The Songs" in his live shows. It is an incredible parody.

"This a a reproduction of one of Barry's first hit albums. The CD picks up the young tone and sound in Barry's voice that I love so very much. Every song on it is a winner!"
