The Baraka Orchestra takes you through a journy of your soul
revolution now | Paris | 08/25/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Baraka Orchestra is the sound of revolution! Not the revolution that goes with politics, but the revolution that deals with self. Like the striping of layers from your soul. There music mixes Traditional middle eastern, free jazz, dub and electronic that makes an effect that deals not only with your ears, but your mind and more so your soul. The band is comprised of JT on Trumpet, he has played in such projects as Ivy and Quaballa Steppers. Dub Gabriel on Bass, Turn Tables, and Kaos. His past and present projects are Quaballa Steppers, Brooklyn Massive, and Magadog. Prof. Shehab on G3 Power Book lap top, and he comes from Crooklyn Dub, scarab, Quaballa Steppers. Also, Introducing John Roberts on drums. They also have such guest as Umar Bin Hassan from the legendary Last Poets. Friz-B from Various Blends, DJ Serge and many more. This album is a must have for fans of Bill Laswell, Square Pusher, Peter Gabriel's sound track for Last Temptation of Christ and the poems of Rumi."
A MIDDLE EASTERN DUB JAZZ JOURNEY
revolution now | 08/28/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I'm not sure I'd call this band an "Orchestra" but the music is terrific. This CD is like a seemless voyage, an aural journey taking you from the middle-east to Birdland to the Mad Professor's studio (to name three of the five worlds.) Five Worlds is as good as the best Laswell or Real World stuff."
