Synopsis

Album Description
That which doesn't kills us, makes us stronger. Bangkok Five debuts in 2008 with We Love What Kills Us. A mixture of songs in English and Spanish by a Los Angeles band with a heightened cultural awareness of their neighborhood. Kerrang! gives them 'Four Stars' and Blender says 'Sure to a be a hit among the eye-lined hipsters'. The band delivers a provocative assembly of dark verse over thick sexy grooves that keep hips shakin' and fists flying high, whether in dorm rooms, muscle cars, the smoky blackness of clubs or arenas across the world. 10 tracks.

CD Reviews

Not bad
Brian G | New Jersey | 07/08/2008
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I agree with the above reviewer. Five new songs and five re writes does not constitute an ep. Dishonest to say the least. I bought the album thinking I would be getting a full cd of new songs. I guess my excitement to buy the album distorted my judgement on LOOKING AT THE BACK OF THE CD. Now, on to the five new songs; they are some of the best in the alternative genre. Catchy lyrics and songs. Had me singing along to them after a few listens. All in all, a fun album but a bit misconceiving, which merits a three star review."
EP disguised as an LP
T. Brushaber | 07/04/2008
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I love The Bangkok Five, however I can't help but feel a little disappointed with this album. It's not an LP and that is the main issue. There are only 5 songs on this CD with tracks 6-10 being the Spanish language versions of the first 5. Don't get me wrong, the 5 songs will rock your damn face off, but rerecording Spanish versions of the tracks seem unnecessary and a cheap way to flesh out the album. If this were priced like an EP - between $8 and $10 - it would have received 5 stars."

(5 out of 5 stars)

"A lot of what those hipster-garage-punkrock bands aim for but miss, Bangkok blows to smithereens. These guys are real and raw with no gimmicks or shticks - the Bangkok Five knows what they are doing and they do it so well.

If you like The Strokes or The White Stripes but wish they gave you a little extra more, definitely take a listen to We Love What Kills Us. It'll stay with you for months to come.
