Do new musics definitely put you off ? Mexican band BANDA ELASTICA will make you change your mind ! With apparent natural ease and talent, the seven musicians (Guitar, bass, drums, percussion, flute & saxophone) strive to create works wavering between traditional free-jazz, improvised Progressive rock and unstructured tango. Far from being disagreeable, their music rather turns out to be fascinating by any means, having nothing to do with the usual noisy experiments of the kind. Some minimalist pieces can even remind you of KLIMPEREI's works, some others the great Frank ZAPPA. Marimbas bring a typically Latin atmosphere to the whole. 2003's "Ai Tencargo" (Which could be translated as "Leavin' It To Ya") will certainly remain in your CD-player for a while ! During three decades on the road, BANDA ELASTICA has become an isolated territory inside the Mexican music scene: way exquisite for rockers, adventurous in excess for jazz lovers and a bit too joyful for the academic circles. The band celebrates its thirtieth anniversary with "Aqui, Alla Y Aculla", a compilation of live tracks from different stages and line-ups: Knitting Factory (New York, 1994), Museo de la Ciudad (Querétaro, Mexico, 1999), Dokhuset (Trondheim, Norway, 2006) and the FestivAlterNativo (Querétaro, Mexico, 2006 & 2008 with Chris CUTLER on drums.). Difficult to define but somehow influenced by HENRY COW, Frank ZAPPA ("Uncle Meat"), Spanish Progressive rock fusion band MUSICA URBANA and STORMY SIX' "Macchina Maccheronica" with some KING CRIMSON twist. Jointly published by the Musea and Azafran Media labels, this deluxe edition includes extensive liner notes, written in English and Spanish. Not to be missed !
