"Whether you like the album, "Band On The Run" is up to you. That is subjective. However, as a big fan of DTS, DVD-AUDIO, 5.1 Surround Sound, SACD, etc., I was very disappointed in the mix. Unlike 5.1 channel sound recordings, this is only a quadraphonic mix, meaning that you get the front (left/right) and the rear (left /right), but no center front sound. This was typical of some recordings from the seventies that were pushing for "quad" sound. Only "Dark Side Of The Moon" by Pink Floyd was able to reproduce the "quad" sound into true surround. Also, the treble is boosted a little too high and the bass (which McCartney is so well noted for) is diminished in sound and thus, its power. I like this album as a whole, but the mix is just disappointing. I have a SONY SACD Decoder and a DENON speaker system. Other surround mixes sound great, and I wanted this disc to sound great as well."

DVD-Audio a rip-off

"The first few seconds of "Band on the Run" are missing from the DVD-Audio DTS Surround Sound -- thus ruining the entire album. How on earth can a record company responsibly distribute a product that omits the opening to one of the most astonishing songs in Macca's career? It's as if the opening seconds of "Brown Sugar" were omitted from "Sticky Fingers" or a pause randomly inserted in the guitar solo of "Stairway to Heaven." What a rip-off. Stick with a regular CD and enjoy the entire masterpiece for a lot less money."

"Back in the dim and distant past, i bought this album, which subsequently got stolen after a party.

I recently re-bought the CD and it transported me back to shirt collars you could hanglide in and when the wind blew your flares would wrap around your knees!

This album was easily Wings greatest album containing such wonderful tracks as Band on the Run, Helen Wheels, Jet & Bluebird.

Simply brilliant.

The production is superb and there are extra bonus tracks on the CD.

A great CD for anyones collection.

Album stands the test of time

"I've been a fan of Paul McCartney's post-Beatles output since the early days. I was 13 when this album was released, and it had a HUGE influence on me. I've recently rediscoverd the magic of this album (more on that later).

The import version of "Band On the Run" that I've had since forever covers 11 tracks (49 min.). The original album was 9 songs, which I bought as a vinyl as a teenager. And what an amazing album it was, and is. From the opening sounds of the title track, it felt special. I always had a soft spot for "Mrs. Vanderbilt", a minor hit in Europe (where I lived at the time). I loved the intimate "Mamonia" and still do to this day. But I was blown away by the album closer "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five", which at that time (1973) seemed so far away. The import version I have includes the pre-album single "Helen Wheels" (which was included on some later album configurations) and its B-side "Country Dreamer". In all, this album remains Sir Paul's best post-Beatles album, bar none.

I had the good fortune of seeing Sir Paul in concert earlier this week on the "Up and Coming Tour", and what a show it was. Sir Paul, now 68 if you can believe it, looks and sounds pretty much like 30 years ago, just incredible. In the first half of the show, Sir Paul played mostly Wings/solo stuff, including 5 of the 9 original Band on the Run tracks. I was floored when he played "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five", I never imagined I'd ever see that song played live. Wow, what a fantastic evening of music that was.
