Synopsis

Album Description
The famous D minor Toccata BWV 565 reveals the young virtuoso and improviser J.S. Bach brimming over with energy and vitality. We can only guess at how he must have fascinated, even shocked, his audiences in Arnstadt or Mühlhausen with this piece. Bach's first biographer, Johann Nikolaus Forkel, described the six Trio Sonatas: "Bach composed them for his oldest son, Wilhelm Friedemann, who was later to become a great organist. Not enough can be said of their beauty." Stefan Johannes Bleicher (b. 1962) is considered one of the leading organ soloists of his generation and has made numerous CD recordings, all of which have been well received. The instrument played here is the historic Holzhey Organ in Weienau, built in the 1780s and now authentically restored.
