"Let scholars and dogmatic persons will forgive me, but this record is like a drink of fresh air among a lot of flat, colourless and italianized executions of Bach's overtures. Though it is the early version of overtures, but is quite finished work, free from all corrections introduced made by both Bach, and his editors subsequently.

In this record the relationship of Bach's overtures, as well as overtures of his great contemporaries like Handel, Telemann and Fasch and less known composers like Kusser and J.B.Bach, with the best samples of the French school is especially obvious. Magnificent execution on period instruments strengthens this impression even more. This is the one of few cases when during listening to execution you really concentrate on the work of the composer, instead of you watch a game of an outstanding pianist or violinist.

I feel precisely the same at listening the late version of overtures in execution of La Stravaganza Koln, re-issued recently on Brilliant Classics. Near to these two records all other executions simply grow gim.
