The Gould of this repertory

"Rubsam registrates and clarifies line throughout as Gould did. Tempos however are slower due to 1) the instrument's reverberant nature and 2) the pieces' less-dancelike idiom. This German Mass never sounded more "right".

I only came to these recordings recently, though I happened to matriculate at the University of Chicago while Rubsam manned the loft. What a joy! I only wished I'd had the balls to approach him for lessons, having wetted my technique in high school. I'd suspected he was extraordinary and now I know it to be true."
