CD Reviews

How do they do that?

"How does this acappella group from Rio de Janeiro sound like they're backed by a full band? The result is wonderful. Great voices and oustanding song selection make this a standout CD in every respect. But is it Jazz, World, Acappella, Brazilian? I say all of the above and again, the result is wonderful. FIVE STARS"

"This sophomore release by Brazilian a cappella sextet BR6 is entirely in English (as opposed to Portugese, as on their debut CD "Musica Popular Brasileira A Cappella"), and features classics by George & Ira Gerswhin and Tom Jobim. Their arrangements are fresh and exhilerating, bringing new life into these tried and true jazz gems. As the opening strains of the very familiar "Rhapsody in Blue" meld into Jobim's "Waters of March," you realize that you are in for a VERY special treat. Six voices - no instruments - ALL HEART. Take a listen and see for yourself that these singers are indeed "here to stay!""

"Lovely album. I'm glad I heard a bit on local community radio and decided to try it. Still don't know how they make all those percussive sounds. Nice mixture of Gershwin and Jobim; I look forward to more from BR6."
