CD Reviews

Even more Euro MOR
Nobody | 11/27/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"My goodness, modern folk-power-pop sure is popular in the EU these days, judging by the number of bands playing this stuff. Reamonn (is that Jamaican? You know, Rea . . . mon), is a German band singing in Nashville English, and very well. Big concept power ballads like "Free", "Broken" and "Moments" are full of vocal and guitar walls behind good hooks and melodies, it's very pleasant music. Slower stuff like like "Serenade" have all the requisite emo and sweep that are standard ingredients of country charts these days (although technically this isn't a country album).

Which is where it falls well short for me, there's no real reason for this music to exist except that it does, no ground is broken, no chances taken. You'll like it, you're suppose to, and they are very professional about doing their job in that respect, but I don't think it's music of any real importance. Still, give it dues for being melodic and very competent, not everyone can write hooks after all.

PS: I don't need to point out the absurd "import" price means buying from Azon is a joke. My apologies to the host, but you can't really expect anyone to pay forty bucks for a CD."
