CD Reviews

A True Masterpiece

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Azymuth has been making some of the best Jazz fusion music in the world for the last 30 years; out of those 30 years, I consider Azymuth as the: then-Azymuth and the now-Azymuth; and this is without a doubt the best CD from the now-Azymuth.

There are so many different aspects to choose from; they came up in this 1999 CD with a great combination of different styles like: * Jazz Electronica mixture in cut no. 1 "Pieces of Ipanema" , * Disco hues like in cut no. 4 "Carambola"; * Typical Brazilian Jazz cuts like no. 2 "Brazymuth", 6 "Sunderley Samba", 9 "Mimosa" etc. etc.

- Three extra treats in this album?

a) Orlandivo performing his super hit "Onde Anda Meu Amor".

b) Sabrina Malheiros (before her stardom)performing her dad's song: "Papa".

and

c) Nina Miranda in her fascinating scatting on "Mimosa".

It is a shame though, that commercial differences or who knows what, make Azymuth fans and people in general almost impossible to get this CD at all.

Anyway, if you can find it; don't think it twice; get it because it is perhaps the best Azymuth album ever.

Old and new Azymuth

"Many words are written about Azymuth, I must admit, I'm addicted to this 3 men, playing with so much enthousiasm, funk and Brasilian rhythms.Pieces of Ipanema is refreshing old with new elements (more funky beat) But also very sensitive songs, track 9, called Mimosa, with accoustic guitar and a very sensitive vocal singer makes it yourself at the open air lounge club of Rio or Bahia.Track 8, Bricando a Fogo (joking (playing)with fire) is a perfect bass and drum set from Melheiros and Conti with the electronics from Jose Roberto Bertrami. Makes it an Azymuth song with really psychedelic influences. This CD is a real wannahave for Brasilectro lovers as well.(ps.they were live last saturday, june the 28th. in Rotterdam at the world port Jazz festival, tremendous!)"
