CD Reviews

3.5 stars - another quality Axxis album
Justin Gaines | Northern Virginia | 05/29/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I have a real soft spot for Axxis. Normally I expect some signs of change and progression from the bands I listen to, but not so with these German rockers. With Axxis you know exactly what you're going to get - highly melodic hard rock that sounds like a Scorpions/Helloween hybrid. That's Axxis's sound, and they do it well enough that I don't expect anything new.

2001's Eyes of Darkness was another solid release by Axxis. The band had gone through some lineup changes prior to this album, but as long as vocalist Bernard Weiss is on board, you can be sure that the Axxis sound will remain intact. The album features 13 tracks (plus some multimedia content) ranging from melodic rock to metal, and includes a cover of the song "the Four Horsemen", originally recorded by the relatively obscure Greek prog band Aphrodite's Child.

The album is as good as any other Axxis release, though not really exceptional. Basically, it's exactly what I expect from this band, and I haven't been disappointed yet. If you're an Axxis fan, you'll want to add this to your collection. If you're new to the band, I think you'll like what Eyes of Darkness has to offer, particularly if you enjoy Helloween and/or the Scorpions."
