Synopsis

Album Description
2009 album from the Israeli Jazz singer, bassist and composer. There have been too few musicians throughout the history of Jazz who were able to create a direct bond between their instruments and the audience. With Aurora, Avishai Cohen has reached a certain essence of expression, using voice as a direct and powerful vehicle for his emotions. Singing - in Hebrew, English, Spanish and Ladino. The music draws its source in the earth of his home country, at the crossroads of many cultures. Arab-Andalusian and Hebraic, it tells the story of Bedouins of the desert and speaks of life, love, youth and freedom. Aurora is a work of synergy under the Blue Note label, which for years seems to have been at the centre of all futures in Jazz, of which Avishai Cohen is undeniably the most modern and irresistible standard-bearer. EMI. 2009.

CD Reviews

AURORA - Avishai Cohen the basist.

"There are two Israeli musical artists named Avishai Cohen. They are both brilliant.

Avishai the composer, bass player, vocalist etc. etc., intriques the senses with AURORA. As with all of this artist's music that I have been able to collect, I never get tired of playing and replaying. Cohen and his musicians, brilliant in their own right, just get it right. From Mideastern folk with a groovy touch to high tech jazz, my Avishai Cohen CD's are the go to music that make my days interesting.

Thank you Avishai and all your magnificient musical friends."

"Aurora is an album by Israeli bassist Avishai Cohen, whose recordings blend his instrumental talent with his powerful voice singing in Hebrew and Ladino (the Spanish-based language of the Sephardic Jewish tradition). Though Aurora is jazz at its heart, it reaches out to other musical genres and traditions. The result is an uplifting, visionary fusion worthy of the highest recommendation for music lovers intrigued by new experiences. Aurora is an enhanced CD; it also contains interviews, photos, and video of Avishai, accessible by inserting the CD in one's computer. The tracks are "Morenika" (4:33), "Interlude in C# Minor" (0:59), "El Hatzipor" (6:04), "Leolam" (3:30), "Winter Song" (4:59), "It's Been So Long" (5:17), "Alon Basela" (4:05), "Still" (3:35), "Shir Preda" (4:02), "Aurora" (4:23), "Alfonsina y el Mar" (4:29), "Noches Noches / La Luz" (7:20).
