Synopsis

Amazon.com
His style lodged somewhere between neo-soul revivalism and the ongoing tradition of love-man blandishment, Avant makes a good showing on his third album, Private Room. Recalling Marvin Gaye in lush style, a nod to "Sexual Healing" (the whispers on "Heaven"), and even by name in one lyric ("Hooked"), he posits a derivative but pleasing stance. Most surprising is "Have Some Fun," which backs its affirmative message with an inventive, piano-led track, a snaking melody line, and a stack of vocals that tease the ear. Not everything here rises to that immaculate level, but never does the music rest on anything less than imaginative craft. Avant?s love for sound and emotion show throughout this hour-long performance--one that R&B lovers won?t regret picking up. --Rickey Wright

"Avant who bust onto the scene in 2000 with the hits SEPARATED and MY FIRST LOVE is back with his third joint which in my opinion is better than his first and second. However, this one is very forgettable. At first, I was into the CD but it really does not leave a lasting impression especially as other music comes out. Avant is a good singer but he is no standout in the R&B arena and many think of him as a R Kelly knock off but there is no doubt that he has made some ends in music.AV- Produced by Sizzle. This song is a nice first song on the CD. This midtempo is arranged well with the background vocals adding a whole notha level to the song. Avant's vocals aint bad either. This is actually one of the better songs on the CD. AREAD yOUR MIND- 1st single off this project. Produced by Sizzle as well, a little bit of everybody has heard this song. There really is not much to say about it then. I heard it so much that I am a little tired of it though but it is a nice smooth jam. A-HEAVEN- Mid-tempo produced by Warryn "Baby Dubb" Campbell and Harold Lilly Jr. has some elements of old school in it. It is a laidback, cool joint but it is forgettable. I mean we have heard this before but it does work. A-DON'T TAKE yOUR LOVE AWAY- Probably the reason why I bought this CD. This 2nd single produced by Sizzle is a tight and very melodramatic love song about longing for the lover to not take her love away. This reminds me of MY FIRST LOVE a little and Avant shows his talent here on this song with singing as well as writing. He makes the song come alive and when I hear it, it is almost like a story to me. AHAVE SOME FUN- Produced by Warryn Campbell and Harold Lilly, this song is off da charts. It changes keys, tempos all of that. Being a very musical person, I am all into this cut right here. This is like a music masterpiece and very unique- something you dont hear much. Avant's soft tenor blends in well as he adjusts to the music changes well. The song talks about having some fun, the song itself is fun and I enjoy it all the way through. A+HOOKED- Produced by Sizzle, this midtempo that has soft handclaps throughout is a smooth jam about being hooked to someone's loving. I mean I have heard this before but the song does work and Avant makes it work. Nothing new but a cool song nonetheless. B+PHONE SEX- Produced by Sizzle, I do not care for this song. I think artists take it too far when talking about sex so explicitly. Avant, you are not R Kelly so get over it. I think it is desperate or too over-the-top talking about some phone sex. I do not listen to this song which is arranged in a very familiar R&B way. C+FEAST- Produced by Sizzle, this slow New Jack Swing kinda song does not work at all for me. It is kinda creative but I cannot get into it at all. Probably the theme of the song about feasting on a girl in a sexual way does not sit right with me but the song is ok. BSEEMS TO BE- Produced by Sizzle and featurig Olivia, this is a creative jam that has hit written on it. The two artists' voices complement one another. This is the kinda music I am talking about. This beat slow jam has a good chorus and it just works. It is a jam no doubt. A+yOU GOT ME- Produced by Sizzle, I like how the song starts with whistle blowin'. The song is a good song that talks about being sprung. There is nothing really original but the song is good no doubt. All the elements work together here. A-WANNA BE CLOSE- Produced by Sizzle, this is the big ballad song which is my kinda music. Avant handles this well and it shows that ol' boi can sing. The song could also be a hit. A+EVERYTHING ABOUT yOU- Produced by Sizzle, this slow song which looks at the good qualities in his lover is very good. I like how he flows over the verses and the words are touching. Both of these last two songs are what it is about- showign love which Avant does well. AyOU- Produced by Sizzle, this is supposed to be like a party cut but it does not make me wanna do nothin but turn from it. I really do not care for this song as there is nothing special about it. It works but nothing sticks out about it. BREAD yOUR MIND PT.2- This remix is jammin. I like how the song is modeled off "COME GO WITH ME." It almost sounds better than the original mostly because it is refreshing after hearing the original so much. AFLICKIN'- Featuring Bumpy Johnson and produced by Sizzle, this is more of a party jam. The song makes you wanna start dancin and it is very fun. Avant shows off some of his harder side but the song is cool and there are kids' voices over the chorus. A nice summer joint. AOverall, the CD is good but nothing extra special. Everything works but for the most part it is the same we have heard before although there are some standouts. Avant is so dramatic to me. It is like many of his songs are mini-movies which is good because that is a strength of his as a singer. If Avant starts being a little more creative, he can transcend the formulaic R&B that he gets stuck into but the CD is good no doubt."
I'm lovin it!

"After having this CD playing in heavy, EXCLUSIVE rotation in my CD player for weeks now, I am STILL listening to this CD...and I love it to pieces.I first heard "Read Your Mind" online on New York's WBLS this song's release is a great prelude to what the entire album is about. I am LOVING this CD from start to finish, which is very rare for me. To try & name my favorite song(s), I would seriously be naming ALL of them. This CD is absolutely one of the most romantic, skin tingling (yeah, I said it!), get-yo-groove-on-as-you-sing-all-loud-with-your-headphones-on (yeah, I done it!), that I have heard in a LONG time.Filled with great songs to get you dancing but also to get you feelin' all romantic inside, Avant has created a CD for the ladies to enjoy. And take note fellas: this is a good one to add to YOUR collections as well...TRUST me on this. Play this CD for your woman & watch.....Some of my favorite favorites: "You Got Me", "Heaven", "You", "Wanna Be Close".....GET THIS CD!!!"
