"The European band Atomic possesses a distinct sound. A combination of Mingus' multi-textured sound with Ornette Coleman's free jazz and a bit of a punk rock beat. This is very similar in style to the Vandermark 5. Ken Vandermark with his School Days group has recorded with Atomic. This is a sensational band. If you like jazz with an avant-garde edge but still based in historical jazz you should listen to this group."
