Not Always, Really

"Sometimes, artists can be very surprising with the actual music they've endured in the 80's. Atlantic Starr was one of those acts. The glitter and the sonnets of the group really remained as a constant in the 80's. The songs they've made really have shown a lot of soul, which a lot of people don't seem to recognize time after time. That still hasn't changed the atmosphere of what the essence is like. Although they really aren't popular anymore, the music still is considered as one of the best guilty pleasure acts that came out of the 80's. As for Greatest Hits collections, that is another masterpiece trying to find in itself. The 2001 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection of Atlantic Starr, is a budget CD as part of the lengthy Universal budget line of Greatest Hits Collections. Although they do intend to be cheap, the music is cheaper because a lot of great songs are missing. The songs here really range more from Atlantic Starr during their reign with A&M, and not actually focusing on their outlook with Warner Brothers and Reprise records. The songs here range with great standards including the soulful Send For Me, the dynamic Touch A Four Leaf Clover, and the most popular song from Atlantic Starr, the #1 hit Always. Although the collection of songs is quite adequate, a lot of songs could've been added here including the soulful Masterpiece, Love Crazy, My First Love, and a whole lot more to the mix.Instead of getting this collection of Atlantic Starr's hits, try getting the Ultimate Collection of Atlantic Starr released a year earlier. It is really a much better hits collection than this one really is. But, if you can't find that one this will always have to do."

"...Just bought this album because I like the band. I only had the A&M collection (Secret Lovers... The Best Of) in my own collection. This CD is (in my eyes & ears) a bit too short (52 minutes), considering how 'fruitfull' their music was/is. Silver Shadow is in it's 12" remix (I didn't have it yet) and Secret Lovers is in it's single mix. Both version were BETTER on the first collection). I miss quite a lot guitars & other keyboards in Silver Shadow, although this version is very clear to hear. The version of Secret Lovers here, is much shorter, as I already told. Those were the cons, now the pro's: - The digital remaster sounds much better than the others. - All songs are placed in chronological order (which was NOT the case on the CD 'Secret Lovers... The Best Of'), so, it's quite nice to hear this 'growing band' doing their 'thang' from one song into another. And last but not least: - 'Always' is included at the end (Atlantic Starr signed to Warner in 1987 and that was their first single) which was never the case earlier. So: It's a fine collection. I like Circles, Silver Shadow, Secret Lovers and Always the most ..."
I Remember their sound..

"A great collection. I miss the uncomplicated sounds of this time.

Love the voice of their female lead singer."
