CD Reviews

Nice, but...

"Okay, I really wanted to purchase this CD, after I heard "Lonely Afternoon" on another Astrud compilation. However, Verve never released this CD in the USA and the Japanese import is quite expensive, considering that the total play time is less than 30 minutes. Anyway, I finally did something I thought I'd never do: I downloaded this album from I-tunes... So here's my review. I liked most of the songs, but some are not as good... My favorites include "Dreamy" (simple and charming, nice orchestration), "Chup-Chup" (funny and entertaining), the two Beatles covers (and I really dislike that band), "Windy" (very smooth) and "Crickets Sing for Anamaria" (this one is hillarious). However, on some tracks, such as "Never My Love" and "Sing Me a Rainbow" she sounds bored and uninspired. I don't know what happened there. And the worst choice is the duet with her son, Marcello. "You didn't have to be so Nice" from her previous album "Beach Samba" was bad enough, why record another one?!? Anyway, that said, I don't regret buying this CD and play it often. Very often in fact. Thumbs almost up for this one. Cheers! P.S. WHY WOULDN'T VERVE RE-RELEASE HER FINAL TWO ALBUMS OF THE 60'S??? HELLO, VERVE, WE NEED "I HAVEN'T GOT ANYTHING BETTER TO DO" AND "SEPTEMBER 17, 1969" ON CD!!!"
Windy makes you smile & shiver

"Like my "fellow fan" I agree that Windy bringes you back to your childhood. You are forced to think about it when you will hear a unique performance of Jungle Book's 'The bare necessities'! It's hard not to smile when you hear this song."
