Synopsis

Album Description
A lively collection of Scottish and Irish melodies passed down for centuries. Some of the tunes are a whimsical fantasy of play while others are a sad reminder of troubled times. Bird is just the musician to manipulate the emotions with his fiddle and fine arrangements using, among others, traditional instruments - penny whistle, flute, bodhran, button accordion and uilleann pipes.

Fiddle Tunes "For the Birds"
10/02/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"For anyone who yearns to hear imaginative fiddling embedded in some new and classic tunes, this is for you. Bird addresses a variety of musical genres from light jazz, bluegrass, and country to Celtic and a bit of waltzing. Just when you think that each style has been neatly and confidently dispatched, a surprise twist or turn pops up to keep the listener on his toes.
Keep your ears peeled for subtle treats in songs you think you know.
For anyone who yearns for a CD that celebrates the wonders of birds, this is also for you. Each tune takes on a different species and those who delight in birds will understand by listening and imagining. Most notable is "Barney the Blue Jay", a clever piece that captures the essence of the boisterous, flashy know-it-all that brings us color in winter, and impish disorder at the feeder by summer. Quite moving is the "Mourning Dove Waltz" that describes the peaceful and polite nature of a species that could aptly be called the Smurf of the bird world.
If this is not enough, a chunk of the action on this CD goes to help injured and orphaned birds.
The whole concept of this CD is a truly neat idea that deserves exploration and pays off with pure joy."
