Synopsis

Album Description
For her debut recording, Armonica chose jazz songs that reflect her love of classics like The Nearness of You and I'll Take Romance, and at the same time reveal her fascination for long-overlooked gems. "I pick songs that have an impact on me," she said. "And I work very hard to bring them to life for others by getting mentally and emotionally to the place where that song comes from. That's what the name of my CD, From Me To You is all about." THE PLAYERS Bassist Ben Wolfe (currently living in New York), is known nationally and internationally known for his work with Harry Connick, Wynton Marsalis and most recently Diana Krall. Also appearing on bass is Dave Captein whose playing experience includes work with Mose Allison, Art Lande, Ritchie Cole, Ernestine Anderson, Larry Coryell and Dave Frishberg . Nationally known recording artist Dan Balmer, who has performed with the likes of Andy Narrel, Jim Pepper, David Friesen, Glen Moore, Jessica Williams and Red Mitchell, lends his guitar expertise to the project. Youthful pianist Tony Pacini cut his teeth on the jazz scene with performers such as Leroy Vinnegar, Ritchie Cole, Chuck Israels, Dick Berk, Dan Faehnle, Hadley Caliman, Nancy King and Bud Shank. Saxophonist Dave Evans is quickly winning Northwest jazz fans over with his smooth tone (try to imagine Paul Desmond playing the tenor sax) and harmonic/melodic sensibilities. Definitely one of the premier saxophone talents on the west coast. Drummer Ron Steen, Portland's jazz guru to the up and coming, has been hosting jam sessions in town for the past three decades. A former long time member of saxophonist Joe Henderson's group, he heads up the Ron Steen trio and has performed with many jazz greats including Dexter Gordon, Milt Jackson, Sonny Stitt, Charlie Rouse, Bobby Hutcherson, and Eddie Harris.

CD Reviews

Great vocals, ensemble and standards!
John Dziadecki | Louisville, CO USA | 11/27/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Armonica has a captivating way of phrasing that brings a new shine to this very, very fine collection of standards. No lush orchestrations here -- just a small, tight ensemble of talented muscians showcasing Armonica's pure vocals. What a voice! This talented singer deserves a wider audience. Take a chance -- you'll be glad you did."
